As this new year begins it marks the beginning of a new chapter. One where a lot of changes are taking place, some for better, some are bittersweet. I don’t feel sad or scared like I usually tend to feel when big things change. I am excited to see what the future has in store and know that I have a strong hold on where I want to be as a person and business.
We are very sad to announce that our main girl Kaylan will be moving back to Nova Scotia at the end of the month. She has been a rock and a force since she started back in May. I don’t know if I’ve ever worked with anyone that complimented me and the business so well. Her incredible customer service, pure hustle and will to put up with too many true crime podcasts will be greatly missed. I am so proud of her for making this decision to start the next chapter of her life back home with her man but she is going to leave some big boots to fill. This being said, if you know anyone interested in coming on board as a freelancer or full time in the spring keep us in mind. We have some serious floral magic to create in 2018 and I am so excited about everything to come as well as the opportunity to work with new people.
Second big announcement… I don’t know if I am ready!
After Valentines Day we will be closing retail. Retail has always been an afterthought for me. Hunt and Gather opened in January and I had no idea if I was going to be able to feed myself or pay rent so I had to think quick. Opening a business is scary, guys! Retail has done well but I just feel like I need to focus all of my energy, creativity and love into what makes me happiest, and that is weddings. It’s scary announcing a part of my business is closing. You worry about people thinking you failed but I truly believe this to be more of a triumph. Our wedding business has far exceeded my projected sales and because of that, we no longer need retail to support us in off season. That being said, all retail items are currently 30% off and we will continue to drop prices leading up to Valentine’s Day to clear everything out. There are A TON of amazing locally made products that you should come snatch up as well as hundreds of greeting cards priced so low that you can stock up. This being said, we will no longer be doing everyday flowers. If you are looking for a custom piece, we will be able to accommodate orders over $150.
This week I have taken time off to reflect as next week marks our one year anniversary. I have learnt so much about myself and where I want to be in the past year. It was the scariest, hardest thing I have ever done in my life and I would be lying if I didn’t say that some days I just wanted to throw in the towel. But, I am not that kind of girl. I am a strong willed lady boss that lets nothing stop her. The possibilities are endless and I am so proud to be a business mama at the age of 26. Thank you so much to everyone who took a chance on this budding baby biz for their weddings this past year. It is so touching that I was able to put all the love I have into each one of your weddings. Finally, thank you to everyone who supported our little retail shop, it has been so fun to get to know so many people and support local makers.
Here’s to riding into the new year with open arms and a clear mind. I am beyond excited for everything to come and know that creatively and mentally I am in the perfect place.
